Maastricht Treaty

What is it? The treaty, formally known as the Treaty on European Union, signed in 1992, that led to the unification of many European countries. The treaty changed the name of the European Community (EC) to the European Union (EU) and led to the creation of a monetary union with a European Central bank, political and military integration, common foreign policy, and common citizenship among member countries.
